Looking back, I realise my life has been marked by God’s supernatural intervention long before I became a Christian.
As a child of non-Christian parents, doors repeatedly opened against all odds. I gained admission to school despite citizenship complications, received an unexpected university scholarship, secured training with a leading international accounting firm, and later completed my MBA in England. At every crossroads, God placed the right people in my path. What my father called “guiren” (destined helpers), I now know was Jesus directing my steps.
In 1981, after years of searching for life’s meaning, a Christian mentor challenged me with three simple questions: Do you believe there is a God? Do you believe He loves you? Do you believe He can do all things? That night, alone in a hotel room in Jakarta, I surrendered my life to Jesus. It was the beginning of a lifelong journey with Him.
Soon after, I was baptised in the Holy Spirit. Instantly, a smoking addiction that had controlled me since childhood disappeared. I had no intention of quitting, yet after lighting my pipe that evening, I simply put it down—and never smoked again. Only God could have done that.
Over the years, I witnessed God’s healing power. Our young son was healed from painful viral skin growths after we prayed. During a hiking trip in 1988, I survived a deadly cobra bite to my neck. Doctors later told me I could easily have died or lost my eyesight. While recovering, God revealed that I had been blessed not merely to enjoy His blessings but to serve His Kingdom. That experience transformed my commitment to ministry and led me into the Full Gospel Business Men’s Fellowship International (FGBMFI).
God continued to guide every season of my life—opening the way for me to complete my doctorate, protecting me from danger, providing our retirement home in remarkable ways, and faithfully leading our family.
Yet perhaps my greatest lesson came through suffering. In 2020, a severe illness left me weak and completely dependent on God. During those weeks, the Holy Spirit exposed areas of pride, self-reliance, and complacency that I had overlooked for years. Through prayer, repentance, and the support of faithful believers, God restored my health and renewed my calling.
That difficult season became a precious gift. It reminded me that God is more interested in transforming my character than increasing my comfort.
Today, my prayer is no longer for success, but for surrender—to walk humbly with God, to be led by the Holy Spirit, and to bear the fruit of Christ in every area of my life.
Looking back, I can confidently declare that every significant step of my journey has been marked by God’s supernatural hand.
All my life, He has been faithful. All my life, He has been so, so good.
