Warmest
felicitations to our the National Secretary,
Bro. Wong Hong Meng, on being conferred the
Doctor of Business Administration degree on 28th
March 2007, by the University of South Australia
for his research into Christian religiousness
and business ethics. This is the latest addition
to his list of academic and professional
achievements. He was in the pioneer batch of the
Faculty of Economics and Administration of the
University of Malaya graduating in 1969 with an honours degree in Economics.
He was also the
first Malaysian to graduate with an MBA from
Cranfield University in 1973. His professional
qualifications include being a Fellow of the
Institute of Chartered Accountants in England
and Wales and an Associate of the Institute of
Chartered Secretaries and Administrators.
“Getting the DBA
fulfills a long unrealised dream held since I
got my MBA in 1973. Upon opting for early
retirement in 1999 I was finally able to pursue
it. It took me 4 years but I could not have done
it without the Lord’s help. I was stuck for
quite some time trying to come up with a
conceptual framework for the research. Then in
early 2004 two articles appeared in the
peer-reviewed Journal of Business Ethics which
provided me with the basis for my research. I
could see the Lord’s hand upon the entire
exercise. Truly when we delight ourselves in the
Lord, He will grant us the desires of our
hearts.”
His DBA dissertation
entitled, “Religiousness and the Business Ethics
of Malaysian Christians in Business”, is
available on the FGBMF website at www.fgb.com.my.
It consists of three papers one of which
Religiousness, Love of Money, and the Ethical
Attitudes of Malaysian Christians in Business,
will be published in the forthcoming issue of
the Journal of Business Ethics.
From the time he
came to the Lord in 1981, Bro. Hong Meng and his
family have been worshipping at Calvary Church,
Kuala Lumpur.
He was the chairman
of Calvary Men’s Ministry for a number of years.
In March 2007 he was appointed Secretary to the
FGBMF
Governing Council.
