The late Tong
Keng Tatt was born in Segamat, Johore the sixth of eight
children. His childhood was difficult as his father died when he
was only four years of age.
Despite starting
school late because of the war, his scholastic achievements
gained him entry into the King Edward VII Medical College,
University of Malaya in Singapore, in 1956. The young Dr. Tong
started his medical career in 1963. In the same year in which he
married Sarah Chia, a staff nurse. In 1967, he ventured into
private practice when he took over Chong Clinic in Jalan Ampang,
Kuala Lumpur in 1967. From that beginning, he expanded into a
group practice with fourteen doctors in four clinics in Kuala
Lumpur today. |

Late
Dr Abraham Peter Tong Keng Tatt |
Dr Tong, who was born
into a Catholic family, was born again during his varsity days. For
many years he attended the Jalan Imbi Chapel until he experienced a
personal revival and was baptized in the Holy Spirit after the
miraculous healing of his wife from endometriosis. He and his family
then started to attend Calvary Church in 1976.
In his love and passion
for the Lord, Dr. Tong opened his clinic premises for Bible Study
sessions and evangelistic meetings. These led to him to start the
Abundant Life Centre which grew rapidly into an interdenominational
charismatic outreach.
In August 1979, Dr Tong
together with nine others founded the Full Gospel Business Men's
Fellowship in Malaysia and he remained its National President until
his death. By God's grace, there are now 101 chapters throughout
Malaysia. In 1995, he was diagnosed with a rare form of lung cancer.
Throughout the past nine years, he never wavered in his walk with the
Lord and he served God faithfully until the very end.
He leaves behind his
wife Sarah, his children, David and Melinda (who are both medical
doctors) and two grandchildren, Rachael and Joshua Fung (children of
Melinda and Dr. David Fung).
